In version 12, switched to a flat-looking icon instead of its old glossy, robot-like face.
I happen to prefer the old one, in particular because it fits better with the rest of OS X, so I wanted to revert.
I replaced the icon files in the new Chrome application with the old ones and tweaked a few other things (the SHA sums in the CodeResources
file if you must know) to get Chrome to use them. I reproduced those modifications in a shell script and packaged it as an app with Platypus. You can download it below, unzip, and then just double click to run.
Google Chrome Restore Icons
As usual, I am not liable if it breaks your system… although it really should not. Right click > Show Package Contents
on the application to see the code. It is GPL’ed v.3 if you want to modify it.
